Who we are
Language is not a subject. It is a door.
Prayatna Educational Society is dedicated to French language education, culture and literature in India. Founded under the leadership of Dr. Preeti Bhutani, we work to raise the standard of how French is taught and learned here, and to connect Indian students and teachers with the Francophone world.

Prayatna is founded
Registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, to raise the standard of French teaching in India.
2007
The competitions begin
The Interschool French Competition brings schools together for the first time, and cultural competitions become a fixture of the year.
2009
Bonjour France
A cultural programme of music, film, food and theatre, for students who until then had met French only on the page.
2010
Séjour linguistique
The first immersion trip. Students live and study in France, where the lesson continues in the market, the street and the host family's kitchen.
2011
Journée FLE
A day given over to teachers of French as a foreign language — workshops, demonstrations, and the beginnings of a network that soon outgrew the room.
2013
IFC takes shape
French Word Power launches with the Quebec Government Office in Mumbai, and Concours Romain Rolland with Alliance Française.
2015
TAEFI
An examination for teachers of French, so that the people teaching the language are held to a standard as clear as the one their students are set.
2020
Enseigner le FLE
A certificate course in teaching French as a foreign language, running online and city by city across the country.
2024
FLEEA forms
The French language educators' association gathers teachers across India and abroad into one body.
2025
Affiliation abroad
Membership of the Fédération Internationale des Professeurs de Français sets the society's work alongside teachers of French worldwide.

EFI, the Indian exam
Épreuve de Français pour l'Inde opens, at centres across the country and online, from Grade 4 upwards.

We will build your French curriculum.
Textbooks and workbooks through our own Unisec Publication, lesson plans in English and French, a teacher’s guide, revision worksheets and a test generator — and audio and video sourced from France, so no outside material is needed. One curriculum across every branch, so a child moving between them is not starting again.
